We needed to get some more female influence for this blog and the lady rappers aren’t taking the bait. What’s up with that?

Ok, I’m over it.

I met Aja through Rod at DopeOnly.com. Aja expressed interest in trying the jerky so I decided to get some answers out of the deal!

Here we go!

1. What’s up with SheGetDoe.com?

SheGetDoe is great! We have so many projects we are working on individually and collectively. I love being able to work with so many young beautiful entrepreneur women. So much talent and drive. Our network and work ethic is solid. I’m also doing A LOT of work with Lyfe Productives (a social marketing and education firm) this year as well. Expect to see more from us in 2012!

2. If you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

Hmm …well first I would buy everyone in my office a giant bag of Green Light Jerky. Then I would by minivans for all my homegirls who are mothers. Next I would retire my mother and last, I would invest back into my business and put the rest away.

3. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

I would love to freeze time like on that old show “Out Of This World.” I deal a lot with deadlines in my business and time is one thing there is never enough of.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

Skills, yes. I prefer to cook healthy food. No ham hocks in my greens. ;) My favorite is Italian food so I would say that is my specialty. Chicken Parm mmmm. Making myself hungry just thinking about it.

5. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

Chocolate Cake. Period.

6. If you could go anywhere in the world, right this moment, where would that be and why?

Bali! I think Bali has the perfect balance of beauty and depth.

7. Fill in the blank, “My mamma told me ______, no matter what anyone else says”. Was she right?

“If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all.” I wouldn’t know if she was right because I’ve NEVER taken that advice. :)

8. What is your favorite late night place to get some grub and what are you ordering?

Anyone who knows me knows I love the taco truck by Lake Merritt in Oakland. They stay open till 2:30 am slangin tacos.

Bonus Question: After tasting it for the first time, what are your thoughts on GreenLight Jerky?

Yum Yum. Perfect protein for a snack. I love Green Light Jerky.

I met Juicy through the Rec League fellas and I’m glad I did. This guy really makes some great music. He is passionate about music. Learning to play guitar as a kid, he eventually went to study music at school at UNT.

Here is a blurb from his website about us page:

After graduating, he studied music at UNT, taught guitar and bass at The Music Conservatory of Texas, and began to perform as an emcee with groups like Vortexas, Fab Deuce, and New Vintage, touring the country and sharing the bill with names like Wu-Tang Clan, Bernard Wright, Jurassic 5, DJ Logic, Hieroglyphics, & Vans Warped Tour. But as any decent producer does, Juicy has always spent most of his time in the studio, which is reflected by his extensive catalog.

Besides his 6 full-length releases and many additional credits as a producer and lyricist, the Emissary has arranged and composed numerous pieces for modern dance in collaboration with UNT, TWU, BYU, and The University of Delaware, which have been performed in competitions and festivals from New York City to Kingston, Jamaica.

1. Why Hip Hop?

I spent a guap on market research, focus groups, and testing different branding campaigns. To be honest, I always wanted to be an interior or costume designer for musical theatre. But in the end, the team decided hip hop was the best choice from a business standpoint. Although, lately I wonder…

2. Last meal on earth, what dish are you eating and where is it from?

Well, since I’m leaving earth, I’ma do something like the Noah’s ark of feasts: 2 of everything. Save the storm for later, though, to offer as a gift to the hosts of my new adopted planet in a flaming paper bag left on their porch after ringing their doorbell. This is the best night of my life.

3. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

I ate all the cookies… It was terrible.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

I’m usually on some pasta or stir fry swag. I like to mix different textures, flavors, and colors. Get some sort of grain, meat, veggies… Baby, you got a stew goin’.

5. Tell me the worst stage experience you are willing to admit to the public?

One time I pissed my pants on stage. But it didn’t even phase me, yo. I just rolled with it on some “of course I peed my pants! everyone my age pees their pants; it’s the coolest!” Or wait, maybe that was Fergie…

6. if you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

Buy some exposure for my work and make some investments… Okay, okay, 2 chicks at the same time.

7. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

2 chicks at the same time.

8. What was your first job as a kid and what did it teach you?

My first job was teaching swimming lessons. It taught me that in order to lead a group of humans, you must establish your authority swiftly and graciously - and you only get one chance.

DJ Eons One makes beats for Grand Invincible among other things.

My personal opinion is that if you really like hip hop, once you hear the beats this guy makes, his music will be on your regular rotation.

Lots of music coming from DJ Eons One, like the Grand Invincible albums “Ask The Dust” and ”Cold Hand In The Dice Game”. There’s also the “Low Budget / No Budget” he did production on with Grand Invincible, Shedwellaz, Murder of Crows, Fist Fam and Sequenced Mindset. Download it!

1. Why Hip Hop?

When I discovered it, it was freaking a lot of people out so naturally I was drawn to it. The more I delved into it, the more I bugged out on the use of samples and recreating something completely new out of something old and out of context. I started collecting records really young and hip hop made records something interactive for me and not just something you put on and then sat down and listened too.

2. If you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

Go record shopping. In Japan. With my homie Jake Juan.

3. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

Being invisible could be interesting. I would most likely get involved in all types of ill shit.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

Yeah, I can get biz in the kitchen. I’ve been making this Tapatio chicken that I bring to BBQs a lot. Basically throw a few chicken breasts in a bag, cover with Tapatio and add as much minced garlic as you can stand. Let that shit marinate for a few hours, grill it up and serve with tortillas. Cut the marinade with lime juice if you are a wimp.

5. Tell me the worst stage experience you are willing to admit to the public?

I’ve probably had a few doozies that I don’t remember due to “time traveling”. I remember Spazz playing this squat in South Philly with Brutal Truth where I broke a string in the middle of our set. The place was fucking packed and for whatever reason I couldn’t get to my back up guitar. Someone handed me a guitar and the guys in my band just launched into the next song. I knew something wasn’t right with the tuning, but my bandmates kept clicking into the next song before I could see what was up. Afterwards the dude who lent me the guitar told me it was drop tuned which I had never played before. I felt like that was one of the worst shows I’ve ever played. Fortunately video footage of it has been floating around for like 15 years.

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

Kraft Mac n Cheese.

7. What was your first job as a kid and what did it teach you?

I delivered newspapers. I learned when you wake up early on the weekends in the suburbs you basically have the whole town to yourself. Also, most people are assholes.

8. What is your most memorable moment in your hip hop life?

V.I.C. (formerly of The Beatnuts) calling me and telling me my beats were a breath of fresh air. Coming from a dude who worked on records I studied when I was learning how to make beats, that shit just blew me away. We had a bunch of phone convos that were really inspiring.

Bonus Question: Now that you’ve tried it what are your thoughts on GreenLight Jerky?

It’s the perfect snack to have stuffed in the pocket of your Carhartt jacket, opposite the pocket of the one holding your 40, natch.

I really like that track, but I also really like tequila so thats no surprise!

Qm and Pudge (Rec League South), just dropped a new album called NO SleE.P. and its a good one! Crazy thing is its free! I posted a review of the album and decided to include it here as well:

Rec League has dropped another dope album.
The “No SleE.P.” is a 6 track offering from rappers Qm and Fab Deuce member Pudge(Rec League South -Denton Texas). The music on this EP was produced by Juicy the Emissary, A Sims, Grip Grand and TLit and features raps from Proe and Ernie McCrackin.

The beat for “Woke Up In The AM” has my head bobbin like crazy. It has my mind conjuring some crazy images of a Dr. Frankenstein like, mad scientist bartender pouring drinks for the party! I have no idea what party that is but it’s no surprise the dudes have “alcohol coming all out my pores”.

The track “W.B.W.” or White Boy Wasted is probably my favorite on the EP. The smooth groove is produced by Grip Grand (the Four Track King) and makes me want to crack a beer and sit in the backyard on a hot summer day. This song is going on my “fuckin badass” playlist, no doubt. This song has some of the best rapping from Qm I’ve ever heard! “…had my first drink at noon today, for me that’s pretty late, but it won’t be the last one, theirs gon be plenty more, with a chick who like Demi Moore, but when Demi More was 24..24?..24..beers in the fridge is the way we live… ” And yeah, knowing those guys there will be PLENTY MORE!

I’m diggin the jams on this album. Every time I listen to No SleE.P. I want a drink and right now it’s only 9am! I guess it’s happy hour somewhere. This is a solid effort that you shouldn’t sleE.P. on(see what I did there?). It’s 100% GreenLight Jerky Approved! My only complaint is that it’s an EP and only 6 songs! I guess that’s not really a complaint now is it…? Keep the music coming fellas.

My dad was in a rock band when I was young. He had old drum machines, keyboards and 4 tracks…in 93 i was really into hip hop so i started making beats and recording songs…that’s why Hip Hop

I would pay my taxes!!! So i don’t get screwed by the govt…then I would start a company where me and my wifey flip houses. I already wrote the theme song for our tv show “you gotta pocket full of money betta, flip that house ay! Flip that house!

3. If you could stop time for you and one other person, for 2 hours, what would you do with that 7200 seconds?

It would be with zack Morris…I would ask him how did he stop time in the early years of saved by the bell…then I could stop time forever

4. If you could perform at any venue int he world where would that be and why?

Madison square garden if you’ve played that venue you’ve made it

5. What is the most memorable moment in your hip hop life?

Late night grinds? Like lap dances? If that’s what you mean then Market St Cinemas is your spot. If your talkin food then Grub Steak is your spot.

1. Why Hip Hop?

Ever since I saw Herbbie Hancock’s “Rockit” video and Malcolm McLaren “Buffalo Gals” video I had to have more.

2. French Dip Sando or Lobster Roll?

I’d have to go with the Lobster Roll. It just sounds good.

3. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

It would have to be Flying. I would just travel the world saving cats from trees.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

Yes, I can get busy in the kitchen. For dinner: enchiladas and pesto (not at the same dinner). For dessert: banana bread.

5. Tell me the worst stage experience you are willing to admit to the public?

Thinking back on all the shows I’ve done, even the bad shows I have fond memories of. I couldn’t think of one incident that would work for that question.

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

Donuts. It’s bad. I can’t be in the same room with one of those pink boxes full of them bad boys.

7. What was your first job as a kid and what did it teach you?

My first job was the Boys Market. I bagged groceries. It was a few blocks away from my house at the time.

8. if you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

First: I would get out of debt. Second: I would find a house to put a down payment on.

Justin Berger makes Videos. Lots of Videos! He’s worked with DJ Shadow, Z-Trip, BMW, DJ Premier and Epitaph Records just to name a few.

He’s been making music videos for a while.

Good stuff Justin. Lets get on to some questions shall we!!

1. Why Video?

I’ve loved capturing video since I was a kid using my parents VHS camcorder. Something about manipulating video and being able to edit it and create this unique reality and perspective has always fascinated me. Whether it’s commercials, TV shows, music videos or movies, video just offers a more visceral experience, in my opinion, than any other form of art.

I guess there’s less left up to the imagination, but I feel that it pulls you in deeper because of that and feels more real and less abstract.

Video to me is the best tool for storytelling and communication. If a picture says a 1,000 words the right video says 1,000,000.

2. What is the #1 thing on your list of things/places/people to work with and why are they #1?

That’s not an easy question because there are so many.

I would say as far as “things”, working with a real 35mm movie camera would be #1. I’ve seen so many movies through that camera that to be able to use it to create my own movie/story would be the ultimate full circle experience for me.

Regarding “places”, I would love to shoot something in my hometown of Ellensburg, WA. I grew up there so I have a very unique perspective on the place. It’s a small college town and I think it would be a great place to visually tell a story.

The hardest one to answer would be “people”. So many great artists, actors and musicians I’d love to work with. If I had to pick one and say that they are my #1 I’d probably go with Steven Spielberg. He’s been a huge part of my movie going experience and also been a giant inspiration regarding directing.

To work with Spielberg I think would be not only another one of those full circle moments, but what I would learn and take in from the experience would be invaluable.

3. What was your first job as a kid and what did you learn from it?

My first job as a kid was a pooper scooper. My parents ride horses and growing up they were always in parades and when you have horses in parades you have to have someone cleaning up the shit, because it’s inevitable that some of the horses are gonna drop a few surprises. My brother and I were tasked with following behind and using a broom and shovel to “scoop the poop”. We got paid for it and I think what I learned from it is that I never want to have to make money cleaning up shit ever again.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

I can make mac & cheese out of the box if that counts. Honestly I’m not much of a cook.

I prefer eating out rather than cooking myself because others can do a much better job than I can.

I liken it to fixing a car. Yeah, I could probably do it, but I’d much rather pay a professional to do it, and do it right.

5. If you could offer an aspiring videographer 1 piece of advice for improving the quality of their videos what would that be?

Lighting. Stop shooting in the dark and buy some freakin’ lights. Even low quality video looks better if it’s lit right.

That and use a goddamn Tripod.

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

Anything with chocolate and peanut butter. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups would be a prime contender for junk food I can’t refuse.

7. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

This question I’ve without a doubt spent the most time pondering.

There’s too many super powers to choose from to pick just one.

If I HAVE to pick just one it’d probably be flight. Either that or invisibility.

I’m sure I would abuse both, but I would most certainly use them for good as well.

8. If $100,000 dropped in your lap right now what would you do with it?

Buy a new car and finance my own indie film.

Bonus Question: Now that you’ve tried it, what’s your opinion of GreenLight Jerky?

Green Light Jerky is pretty amazing. A lot of flavor and great to snack on. If anyone ever asks me what jerky I recommend, I’ll tell ‘em Green Light.

1. Why Hip Hop?

I’m not just a hip hop artist. I’m an artist period. I paint many different pictures in many different ways. I mix all genres together to form what I call “fusion”

2. if you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

In these days & times my first thought would be to save it for the future but on the other hand I would most likely invest it into my fashion line “Fortune Over Fame” & make the future even brighter.

3. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

I would want a power that made the world a perfect place for everyone to live in. Rid the world of disease, poverty, & make everyone healthy & happy! No more wars, drug abuse or killings. Everyone would have everything they want & need so we could all live in peace!

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

I make all kinds of great dishes but my favorite is pollo la brasa (baked chicken over rice)

5. Tell me the worst stage experience you are willing to admit to the public?

Every time I’m on stage I make the best out of it. Whether the sound system is messed up or the sound system is perfect, whether the venue is packed or the venue is empty, I give it my all & make sure everyone has a great experience & a show to remember!

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

I dont really eat junk food but the #1 thing I couldn’t refuse before they closed down was a hot glazed crispy cream donut fresh off the conveyor belt!

7. Who’s your Favorite Rapper and why?

I like a lot of rappers so I couldn’t say I have a favorite but when I’m in the whip I tune into sirius. They play a lot of Wayne, Drake, Kanye, Jay, Game, Rozay, Ace, Meek, Waka so I’m up on all the hot songs.

8. If you could perform on stage anywhere what venue would it be and why?

Anywhere I can make a positive impact on someone’s life. Doesn’t matter the place or size of the venue as long as I help change someone’s life for the better.

Bonus Question: After tasting it for the first time, do you like GreenLight Jerky?

I love it! my 5 year old son loves it more than me. When he comes home from school he washes his hands & runs straight to the kitchen & grabs the bag of classic! keep up the good work! I wish you & your family much success!

Hey DC, I got some questions for you……

1. How did you get into radio?

A good homie of mine DJ Mere One (from the almighty Oakland Faders) was giving me DJ lessons back in the day & I mentioned to him that I was interested in radio. He had done a couple stints at KMEL & suggested to one of the promo cats to give me a call. It’s been 7 years now that I’ve been around those parts now…. seems like yesterday when I walked in there with that Pink & grey phat farm shirt on lmao.

2. If you had $100,000 drop into your lap right now what would you do with it?

Buy my grandma a beamer & probably invest the rest of it into some business ventures I’m working on… I like to think I’m slightly responsible…. slightly.

3. What is the #1 junk food you can’t ever refuse?

Those sour straw/strip thing-a-ma-bobbers ….. They do me in every time….

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes what’s your signature dish, if no, why the hell not?

Heck yeah, I make alfredo sauce from scratch, fry a mean snapper & my OG Legendary spaghetti & broccoli Tuesdays were the business….I had everybody from Raiderette Cheerleaders, to world famous poets, Politicians, & rappers at the apt for Spaghetti Tuesdays lol… True story. Sidenote: I kinda wanna learn to make chicken pot pies… random… I know

5. What is #1 on the list of places you want to visit and why?

I wanna hit Australia … it just seems interesting, also my cousin is a pro basketball coach out there

6. What was your favorite show as a kid and why did you like it so much??

Probably a tie between in the house because I wanted to grow up to be LL cool J, & Martin because he was on the radio & that’s really what made me interested in the On air world.

7. What was your first job as a kid and what did you learn from it?

hmmm… I was 16 & I worked in the back of my Godfathers seafood restaurant cleaning fish & shrimp & shellfish…. it taught me that I never wanted to work in the back of a seafood restaurant cleaning fish, shrimp & shellfish….smh lol

8. If you could have one super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

The Jedi mind trick…. & I’d use it to make sure that people who quote you a price on something but change the price at the last minute always reach into their pocket & pay the difference themselves for being stingy bastards…

BONUS QUESTION: Now that you’ve tried it for the first time, what are your thoughts of GreenLight Jerky?

Generally peppered jerky is either too fake peppery or not peppered enough, But this pepper grinder jerky makes me not wanna eat any other peppered snack ever again…. I kinda might not even want pepper on anything else…. I kinda feel like walking into a restaurant & throwing all of their pepper shakers outside…. you get it.

1. Why Hip Hop?

Because it seemed like my generation of music for me to grow up in. My father was a DJ and bought me Run DMC’s first album for Christmas when I was 10 years old and it changed my life.

2. What is your most memorable moment in your hip hop life?

Watching LL Cool J perform Whoodini coming out the pyramid, and Public Enemy and Run-DMC performing at the Oakland Coliseum.

3. What is on your playlist right now that we should be listening to and why?

Nina Simone because her voice is pretty, her message is strong, and it seems like I feel the type of person she is through her music.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, whats your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

No, my signature dish is cereal. I might be able to make some spaghetti. I never took the time to learn, every female I ever had in my life cooked for me.

5. Can you rap the answer to this question?

(I don’t understand what question.)

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

McDonald’s fries and apple pies.

7. If you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

I would try to start a small youth center and provide equipment and activities that would have to do with the hip hop culture and surviving/getting away from the streets. And I’d probably invest some into the United Playaz.

8. What is #1 on your list of venues that you want to perform at and why?

I’d like to perform at The Fillmore because I’m from The City and that’s where all the big acts perform and it would be meaningful to me.

Bonus Question: After tasting it for the first time, do you like GreenLight Jerky?

Yes, I love it. I’m not usually into beef jerky that much but I like the flavors.

1. Why Hip Hop?

Well I guess I’m not old enough, cool enough, and good enough of a singer to start a blues band, yet. Other than that I suppose it’s just, out of all the genres I grew up on, what inspired me to find my own creative voice and express myself. Hip Hop is like real true love for me. I love her, I hate her, I spend all my money on her, I chase her around like a sad puppy while she dates a bunch of douche bags, and she hardly ever buys dinner for me.

2. Coconut Cream Pie or Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwiches?

Although ménage a trois’s are the spice of life, I’d have to go with Coconut Cream Pie. I’ve actually never had Coconut Cream Pie but I remember thinking Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwiches tasted like shit even when I was young and would eat shit like a Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich. I don’t know if it’s a worldwide phenomena or not but I’d prefer Tempura fried Green Tea Ice Cream. Put that in your mouth and thank me later.

3. Who’s on your playlist right now that we need to know about?

Who’s on my hitlist? let’s see….OH YEAH that one little Motherf….wait…playlist, sorry. Let’s see, lately I’ve only really been listening to Credence Clearwater Revival, Tom Waits, Son House, and M.O.P. Particularly the song “Stop Pushin”. Honestly, with no sarcasm, I think that chorus is brilliant and amazing and MOP makes me want me kidnap guys in skinny mini jeans and hold them for ransom. When I’m not doing whatever it is I just said I listen to my crew Rec League. I may be biased, but biased or not my crew is seriously good at rapping and making music and I fully am not including myself when I say that. Oh and Royce the 5’9 has album coming out on my b-day which I’m happy about. Sooooo….now that you all know when my b-day is I’ll be expecting lavish gifts from all of you.

4. What is your most memorable moment in hip hop and why?

There’s a lot but I do have one but it isn’t memorable in any sort of good way at all. The moment I found out Tupac died I sat crumbled on a lawn while my friend wept on a tree swing, moments later a dog was hit by a UPS truck across the street. So basically there was a lot of people crying, yelling, panicking, and being really bummed out all at once. It was really awful and yes that’s a true story.

5. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish? In No, why the hell not?

I’m actually proud to say I do have some skills. If I said the word “hella” I’d say I gots HELLA some skills. I’ve been cooking since I was a little boy and my family made sure I knew how to cook things for myself. My Grandma (RIP) was a tiny little brown Iron Chef lady who was deadly good in the kitchen. True phone call from her one time - “Hey I couldn’t sleep so I decided to roast a duck, I’m going to come drop it off for you”. I don’t know if I have any signature dishes, I try to keep up with family dishes my G-ma and mom do but they are never as good so I’m not gonna call them my signature any time soon. Recently I made pulled pork with my own homemade N. Carolina sauce (with my own gangster twist). What else…..Adobo, Honey mustard and cumin Salmon, a Puttanesca pasta, a Ginger chicken soup, stuff and things. But I also have eaten a bunch of shit lately too so it’s like whatever. Being poor isn’t conducive to extravagant cuisine on a regular basis.

6. What was your favorite TV show as a kid and what do you remember most about it?

I really can’t think of any shows I used to watch at all. I want to say “Perfect Strangers” because that show is comedy platinum but I can’t think of any. I was a weird kid. I never really liked cartoons, I watched the Indiana Jones movies (first 3 only, Skulls of whatever can go kill itself with a brick) like a 83,000 times. I’ve been a diehard avid Horror movie fan since I was way too young to be allowed to watch Horror movies. I’ve been watching UFC and Pride FC with my pops ever since the first one, and Basketball until Jordan went to go play stickball. Does that sort of at all answer your question? no? too much pointless information? WHATEVER.

7. If you had a watch that could stop time for 2 hours how would you use that 7200 Second?

I would do some serious planning like every movie where they organize an armored truck heist and pull that off like a boss. I’d still wear a cool ski mask and carry an automatic rifle just because, though.

8. How did you get Tiger Blood on your Jean Shorts and does All-Tempa-Cheer get it out easily or must you use another method?

“No, son. Never. The blood always stays on the blade. One day you’ll understand” - Gangs of New York. Same sort of thing applies here. And to answer your question more directly, you get tiger blood on your jean shorts by writing silly mixtape rap verses when you get bored scouring the Internet for all of its despicable splendor.

Bonus Question: Now that you’ve tried it what do you think of GreenLight Jerky?

On some real ish, I’ve eaten a lot of jerky. I’m an off and on Paleo eater (CrossFit nerd talk), and jerky is a pretty important and staple snack. Let me tell you this, GreenLight Jerky is the truth. 1. Why Hip Hop?

AG from Show&AG & DITC said it best (end of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61Lsr3-UjZ4&feature=related): “I mean, a lot of dudes don’t take this as serious as they should, abusin’ the culture and whatever. And I don’t want to sound like some righteous bead wearin’ god, but this [hip-hop] is what it’s about… This gave us a voice to the world… You don’t have to sing, you don’t have to know how to speak well, you don’t have to read or write, you don’t have to be able to do anything like that. And there’s no other genre you can do that in. You could have a nasal congestion, whatever you got— you could have one arm, you could be in a wheelchair— but if you’re good at what you do this field will recognize you, and that’s why I think it’s so special, because there’s so many people in the world who need to express themselves.” Also, I believe that at its core society is base, embarrassing and awkward therefore establishing an eternal need for good hardcore hip-hop, like a skill-saw cutting through all the wackness. It’s the mirror looking back at you. It’s the only genre that blatantly uses the past to create the future, and wears the larceny like a badge— the only genre to stand against and say, ya man I stole that, and I made it mine. Hip-hop swings a heavy pair. You gotta respect that. You gotta try to live up to it.

3. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

Invisible, to rack the world

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

I do this thing where I get burrito size tortillas, a box of red beans and rice, a tub of KFC style cole slaw from the deli and pre-marinated cajun catfish from the butcher (if I can only get the catfish undressed, I buy the most generic cajun rub I can find). I bring the fish home and try to get my girl to cook it, but if she won’t or isn’t there, I’ll probably just bake it. Make the rice, heat up the tortillas and bam cajun catfish burritos. The key is the coolness of the cole slaw with the spicy fish and rice, decent contrast, tastes proper with cold beer. But that’s about all I can do, my girl does most the cooking. I’m usually out in the world trying to bring home treasure so she can have fancy things though.

5. Tell me the worst stage experience you are willing to admit to the public?

So many worst’s with Sacred Hoop, we kind of pride ourselves on them: I vaguely remember coming out of a whiskey blackout on stage in a coffeehouse in St. Paul, Minnesota maybe it was Minneapolis, and I look to my right to see Eddie K (from Trunk Drank, one of my partners on stage that night), duct-taping the mic to his face and continuing to mummify his whole head in duct-tape. I think he used the whole roll. Then there was the time we got liquored up in the street and followed an interpretative dance troupe freeforming to a Mumia Abu-Jamal speech at an after-school youth and mentor center in SF. I played acoustic guitar (which I can’t), DJ Marz played electric guitar, and DJ Quest played drum machine I think. Before we got through the intro of our opening number, which we were making up on the spot, we were playing to a line of people leaving as quickly as possible. They would not tolerate the likes of us, these well-adjusted champions of physical, spiritual and creative freedom.

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

There’s a Lucky grocery near the spot where I get my money in and inside there is a fast-food Chinese stand called Master Fung’s. Fried rice and orange chicken from Master Fung’s. That’s like grindin’ fuel, but I do look down when I’m eating it sometimes and say, “Damn son, what are you eating, plutonium?”

7. What was your first job as a kid and what did it teach you?

In middle school I was a little league umpire for the minors’ games. It taught me to shun the rules and not give a fuck. I realized that in the end the world doesn’t give a fuck about a game; the world only cares about money and death.

8. Last meal on earth, what dish are you eating and where is it from?

There’s this cereal called Mallow Oats, look around you can find it. It’s a natural foods version of Lucky Charms. Situation critical.

Bonus Question: Now that you’ve had it, what do you think of GreenLight Jerky?

I already F’s wit it. My girl used to work the promotional displays at Country Sun Natural Foods in Palo Alto; she brought home mad samples, kid! Teriyaki has been my isht for a minute.

Web guy, music guy, video guy and takes his shirt off at shows guy are just a few ways to describe Mr Rob Rush. I met Rob after doing interviews with Richie Cunning and Grip Grand when I sent an email asking if he was the Rec League Mastermind. One email later my comments garnered a “Best Email Ever” reply from the dude. Its been “on” ever since.

We’ve been collaborating and devising plans for the Official Jerky Of Hip Hop to continue its unimpeded take over of every mouth on earth. As part of the plan here is a brand new track by Rob Rush with beats by Juicy The Emissary:

Wassup Rob Rush, answer some questions…

1. Why Hip Hop?

Hard to say really. I always listened to hip hop when I was young, I think the first song I remember perusing was Run DMC and Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way”. My parents of course knew the Aerosmith song so a rap version was something I could get played on car rides. From there it was tapes from the neighbors, and any music I could get living sorta secluded in the Santa Cruz mountains and being very young. I was writing raps by 3rd Grade which was 1988, Started hearing NWA at the same time I heard Fresh Prince… It was on ever since.

2. If you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

I think Richie probably answered this question the best. I believe pretty strong in my team, and if we had the right biz plan to turn money into exposure I think it would be the best investment of $100k possible.

3. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

This one is weird, I read comics pretty heavily and a character I used to like a lot was from the Valiant Comics universe. The character is Rai, specifically Rai from the Rai and The Future Force series. Now I’m talking about Takao Konishi here, the 43rd Rai, anyway… He was infused with the Blood Of Heros right? So he had all the normal Rai / Bloodshot powers. But he also had a Harbinger ability, and that was that he was really inspirational when he spoke and he could get people motivated almost to a crazed mob mentality and I think that would be really useful when I’m rockin’ a weak ass crowd who doesn’t want to party as hard as I do. BONUS: If you hunt through some issues of Rai and the Future Force and get lucky, you can find a photograph of me in a Rai costume. I’m serious about mine.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

Yes, I was a cook for nearly 10 years. Cooking for 7, no so great, cooking for 70-700. Hit me up. As a matter of fact, the whole Rec is actually pretty nasty in the kitchen, different styles. I’m mean with the meats.

5. Tell me the worst stage experience you are willing to admit to the public?

Well there are quite a few to choose from… forgetting my verse when opening for Wu-Tang, that was pretty bad. Also drove once to Mammoth to play for a snowboard DVD release party… however some brainiac put the stage about 400 feet away from the bar, with a rope so no one could take drinks from the bar to the concert area. So we performed for a sold out crowd that couldn’t hear or see us because they were all at the bar (can’t blame em). I then drove immediately home afterwards when the roads were closed, took 12 hours and I was starting a new job the next day. Thankfully my man QM took over about 10 hrs in so I got a bit of rest.

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

GreenLight Beef Jerky!! Although I wouldn’t consider that junk food.. okay.. umm pretty much a fiend for any kind of cheeseburger, fried chicken, 2lb bag of peanut butter M&Ms… I’m really unhealthy.

7. What was your first job as a kid and what did it teach you?

I worked in a baseball card / comic shop when I was 10. I actually worked in 3 shops from 10-14. It taught me that comic books will set back your growing up process significantly, and in some cases permanently. I also developed the ability to communicate with people who are scared of the world and got my cash register chops up.

8. Have you ever had the Zilla Style Dog from my boy Ryan at 4505 Meats in SF? Dude has the best chicharrones I’ve ever eaten.

Rob’s mouth was so full that he was unable to answer the question but he gave an enthusiastic thumbs up!

Bonus Question: Now that you’ve had it, what do you think of GreenLight Jerky?

Well as I am now an experienced consumer of Green Light Jerky and co-creator of “Jerky Jaw”. I must say that the Pepper Grinder flavor is my favorite. I have had PRD for dinner 3 out of 6 nights this week and am about ready to re-up since my last 2lb order only lasted me 10 days.

Lil Dee also known as Rap Monster is an MC from Columbus Georgia who may comes across as pretty extreme when you meet him on Twitter. Some even label him as racist. Those people are idiots. He says some crazy stuff about race and religion stirring up quite alot of emotion from people but, if you listen closely and dig deeper you will find a very intelligent person who cares about his people.

Getting 20 grand in back pay from an independent label in Atlanta then losing $2000 of it less than an hour later gambling in a strip club bathroom.

Setting up banquets at a Hilton hotel and it taught me that physical labor for pay is not for me.

1. Why Hip Hop?

Honestly, I just always had a passion for perpetual disappointment. Like, ever since I was a kid, I used to say, “Gee wiz, mom! I can’t wait till I grow up and graduate from college with a useful degree, so I can get the exact job I’ve worked so tirelessly for..and then, once I get it, I’ll stare directly down the beady little eyes of my approaching success and say…’Screw you, success! I’ma go write rap songs!’” And then I just did that sh*t. Cause I’m a boss. Now, instead of owning property and talking about fancy wines and expensive house pets, I do shows at dive bars with sucky sound for embarrassingly small crowds of people because all my friends that said they’d come always find some irreverently lame excuse as to why they couldn’t make it…but it’s totally cool tho, because the eight people that did make it were just as excited about not buying my CD as the hundreds of other people that would’ve come if their blank didn’t have to blank. Hip-hop, f*ck yeah!

2. if you had $100k Drop in your lap right now what would you do with it?

Invest in starting a charity that’ll benefit the youth. Haji P loves the kids. If there’s anything left, I’d spend it on booby watching. Haji P loves the boobies.

3. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

I’m really up in the air on that one (Ha, get it? Like flying!? I’m freakin awesome.) Anyway, I’ll tell you one superpower I definitely would NOT want. So, I’ve been up on this show “Misfits” lately. You should definitely peep it, its hype. But, on the show, this one chicks power is the ability to make people want to molest her. Seriously, she’s like Rogue, but the exceedingly slutty version. When people touch her, she absorbs their desire to aggressively perform lascivious deeds. It’s like having the power to request being raped. I don’t see how that’s convenient for anybody. Yikes.

4. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what’s your signature dish, if no why the hell not?

If by skills you mean, ” applied proficiency at culinary creation”…then no. But, if by skills you mean “can you rap good where people keep milk and cutlery”…then yes. I feel like it’s just downright ill-mannered of me to cook my own food when theres people working in restaurants the world over, toiling over a hot stove to prepare dishes to my perfection. So, you keep on cooking your own meals…Im’a go down to Bo Jangles and show Devante behind the counter just how much I appreciate the way my biscuits are buttered.

5. Can you rap the answer to this question?

I don’t understand this question. This question is stupid. Don’t ever ask it again. Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn.

6. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

I would say Chex Mix. I’m a huge proponent of Chex Mix, but the amount of pretzels they put in that sh*t is extremely too disrespectful for me…so I won’t say Chex Mix. Other than that…baked goods. Oh, and Bo Jangles biscuits. Which, are baked goods. So I’ll stand by my previous answer. Baked Goods.

7. What is the most memorable moment in your hip hop life?

I once had a girl throw panties at me while on stage…that girl was unknowingly standing next to my mother. Hilarity and humiliation would later ensue.

8. What is #1 on your list of venues that you want to perform at and why?

On the reals, I’ve always wanted to perform on the Muppet Show stage, with Scooter introducing me…not Kermit. But, as that show was cancelled a year after I was born, I’d gladly take performing on Sesame Street as a consolation. Specifically on some type of Guy Smiley game show. I like Muppets, man.

Bonus Question: Is GreenLight Jerky so good you want to slap your mama?

It’s definitely good enough to slap my mama, but I wouldn’t do that cause my moms is from the hood…..that motherfreaker can fight!

Laugh Tracks - Episode Two - OJ Patterson

Where do I begin? My great friend OJ and I go way back. Lots of memories, me and this guy. We have to go all the way back to August 1, 2011 when I was given OJ’s name as a referral for 8Questions. He replied to my random email and we became close hanging out on twitter. Ok.. well, I retweeted some stuff and he followed me and I almost went to his house once. The friendship goes deep!

OJ is the “go to” guy when it comes to what’s happening in the SF comedy scene. Lydia Popovich (Laugh Tracks - Episode One) introduced us and he is on top of his game. 1. How funny are you?

I’m as funny as this question is difficult to answer. So basically, I’m very funny. Still, I know I have a long way to go to be as funny as I want to be. If 2 Live Crew were as nasty as they want to be, I want to be the 2 Live Crew of comedy.

2. Who is the funniest comedian we may not know about and why are they so damn funny?

Cory Loykasek is a San Francisco based comedian that is ultra-funny. It is very exciting to watch him because he’s very smooth and casual yet communicates very cerebral observations and commentaries. He also produces my favorite short films/sketches under Wobbly H Productions. There are tons of funny people who deserve wider attention and Cory is definitely a champion in his weight class.

3. What is the most embarrassing stage moment you are willing to admit to the public?

I once fell through a stage. It wasn’t a stage as much as two adjacent tables. I’m very physical on stage; I lounge and dance around stage without much thought. Should have checked the logistics of the performance space because all of my rumbling moved the tables apart and gravity handled the rest. It didn’t hurt much but the calamity happened during my closing bit. Ever since then I’ve been known as “Pratfall” Patterson.

4. What is the #1 Junk Food you just can’t ever refuse?

Tin cans. Bacon wrapped hot dogs. Basically I get weird when I drink.

5. If you could have 1 super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

I would teleport. I have a lot of cute comedy nerd girls that follow my Tumblr page that I’d like to perform for. Plus there’s no poop/urine on the seats of teleporting in contrast to Bay Area public transportation.

6. Club Sandwich or Corned Beef Reuben?

Corn Beef Paul Reuben and a Tequila shot in a Large Marge Milkshake.

7. What was your first job as a kid and what did you learn from it?

I folded t-shirts for my stepfather’s side business. I learned how to endorse checks and learned “We’re All Just a Box of Crayons” as the shirts stated.

8. Do you have any skills in the kitchen? If yes, what is your signature dish, if no, why the hell not?

I don’t cook because I’m a young comedian (i.e. poor). I’m currently surviving on day old bread from local cafes and free jerky. I’m also impatient and cooking takes an observational capacity beyond my nature. I’ll learn one day.

Bonus Question: Now that you’ve tried it, what are your thoughts about GreenLight Jerky?

I really like GreenLight jerky’s savory consistency. I don’t feel sick at all even after a lot of it. I can’t really ask anything more from my jerky. Outside the food, the brand/personality/local business aspect of GreenLight is a big selling point. I know I’m supporting something very cool when I’m chomping on the Garlic Parmesan.

Yukmouth is a Grammy nominated rapper from East Oakland California. He sells a lot of records! You may remember the jam “I Got 5 On It” from when he was in Luniz. If not, lets take a trip back to 1995. This track was bumpin all over the place!

I met Yuk back stage at a show, he did with Draztic in San Jose. I recorded the first live performance of the track “Single Time” featuring Yukmouth and Draztic!

The platinum selling artist was cool enough to take the time to do an interview for GreenLight Jerky and 8Questions! Not only that, he also sent me a shot glass and an autographed copy of his album “Free At Last”!

Yes I do…my specialty is FRIED CHICKEN WINGS..the way I season the wings makes it taste so good…my kids love it!!

My 1st job was @ dominos pizza..what I learned was I need 2 get serious w/ my rap career b/c I don’t wanna be workin here all my life…lol
